Engineering Manufacturing Technician / Papermaking Apprentice SMURFIT KAPPA UK LTD
To train as a Papermaking Apprentice to undertake a structured training program of academic study and vocational work in our Birmingham Mill. We are looking for someone who wants to learn, has a good work ethic and is able to adjust to different work situations. You will be operating the systems and equipment involved in the production of products.

What will the apprentice be doing?
- Working as part of a skilled team, you will play a key part in delivering high levels of performance in a highly efficient and environmentally sustainable, state of the art paper production Mill
- With training from raw materials through to finished product you will develop the skills needed to operate, maintain and problem solve all aspects of the plant in a safe and timely manner
- You will spend time in different area of the paper mill learning key manufacturing skills and gaining experience in the paper manufacturing process, whilst learning the importance of Health & Safety, quality control and housekeeping
- You will also carry out daily work programmes as assigned by the shift manager working within a passionate and goal orientated team
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The apprenticeship will consist of a combination of block release at CATCH in Stallingborough and onsite with your employer.
You will complete the level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician standard including the City & Guilds L3 0610 in Process Technology.
In addition to this you will also complete a Level 2 and Level 3 qualification in Papermaking.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to a higher-level apprenticeship or full-time employment for the right candidate.
You will have developed a variety of interchangeable skills and have an in depth understanding of the papermaking industry.
