What will the apprentice be doing?
The Technical Support Apprentice will work closely with our Controls Engineer Team, observing and providing assistance with conceptual designs and production of detailed manufacturing specifications.
On offer is the chance to work on technically diverse projects whilst developing valuable skills to become a fully trained Controls Engineer in the future.
The Opportunity:
In the role you will gain a wide knowledge of the business enabling you to actively contribute to the success of the department.
Key activities will include learning how to provide full technical support to the Controls Team. You will help to maintain the standard portfolio of functional design specifications, learn about the production of PLC and HMI software as well as the development of new products and methods of control.
As well as gaining a sound understanding of business operations you will also be supported in achieving your Technical Support: Level 3 Apprenticeship with HWGTA.
Key Activities will include:
- Learning how to provide full technical support to the Controls Team
- Helping to maintain the standard portfolio of functional design specifications
- Learning about the production of PLC and HMI software
- Learning about the development of new products and methods of control
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN).
You will receive a training plan that is specific to your qualification, with sessions that are delivered through a combination of face-to-face and remote - Engineering Technician: Technical Support
Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if required.
Within year 2 onwards you will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your Engineering Technician Level 3 qualification. There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in spring of each year.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Once your apprenticeship is sucessfully completed you will be a fully qualified Engineering that will be offered a position with the Controls team at Matcon.
