What will the apprentice be doing?
- Bricklayers lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures eg chimney stacks.
- They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects.
- The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on include large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restorations.
- A bricklayer may work one-on-one or on larger jobs where their bricklaying group (gang) may work on a particular section of a building alongside other bricklaying gangs as well as other trades.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The Apprentice will be enrolled onto a Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship and Greenlight Training Ltd will be the Apprenticeship training provider.
The Apprentice will need to attend the Greenlight Training centre in Plymouth for 3 consecutive days per month.
Functional skills are also available for anyone that has not achieved their Maths and English grades.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
We would like to work with all of our apprentices after they have completed and passed their Apprenticeship. We would look to take the Apprentice on as a sub-contractor.
When fully qualified, progression routes such as a site supervisor would be an option, possibly leading onto site management.
Another option would be to progress onto a Level 3 bricklaying apprenticeship.
