What will the apprentice be doing?
You will gain experience in manufacturing pressure vessels, heat exchangers and high integrity fabrications along with working and installing manufactured equipment on sites around the UK and potentially overseas. All members of the Portobello - RMF Engineering team are given the necessary training to progress within the business.
Principle role & responsibilities:
- Read and interpret manufacturing drawings
- Manufacture equipment to engineering drawings
- Testing and commissioning of equipment
- Carry out inspection of manufactured equipment
- You will have the opportunity to work on and manufacture rescue submarines
- You are directly responsible for producing the equipment and will be used in areas around the UK
- We will provide you with all the necessary training and equipment to be able to do your job
- You will be working in a modern environment, with small-heavy engineering constantly working around you
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Mandatory qualifications:

Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - level 3
- Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - level 3
You will study on a Level 3 Metal Fabricator standard on a Metal Fabricator pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC training centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the training centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
