Laboratory Technician Scientist Apprenticeship AFTON CHEMICAL LIMITED
Working with the Mechanical, Analytical or Technical laboratory teams in our state-of-the-art labs, you will learn how to operate industry tests and develop a technical understanding for a range of mechanical / chemical procedures. As one of four apprentices, you will have the opportunity to rotate around different teams throughout your time here. Duties will include; Perform additive blending following requested formulations, handling chemical components and managing inventory. Run Laboratory testing accurately and precisely using established test methods. Carry out calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

What will the apprentice be doing?
- Perform additive blending following requested formulations, handling chemical components and managing inventory.
- Run Laboratory testing accurately and precisely using established test methods.
- Carry out calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Communication of results to internal customers.
- Maintain safe work practices and adhere to safety regulations.
- Work to defined test timeframes and deadlines.
- Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
All apprentices will study for a Level 5 Technician Scientist qualification with a HND in Chemistry, as well as being provided with role-specific training, with access to attend internal and externally run courses relevant to their role – some of which may result in additional qualifications.
Most of the learning will take place online one day per week, with some practical elements taking place in Sutton Coldfield throughout the duration of the 3-year apprenticeship.
