Reporting into the Finance Director, working in the Accounts and Administration team, this entry level role will provide broad exposure to all areas of administration in an auction house. You’ll get hands on experience working with a variety of departments, and you’ll gain a commercial understanding within a successful auctioneering company.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Working in the accounts and administration department, you will be exposed on a daily basis to:
• Auction administration
• Accurate event recording and data entry
• Systems checking – ensuring that the linked computer systems remain synchronised
• Reconciliations - recording and investigating any inconsistencies
• Export controls
• Bookkeeping
• Sales and Purchase Ledger
• Daily use of Auction software (training provided), but you should have good working skills of Microsoft office software, particularly spreadsheets and Excel
As your experience and understanding grows, you will get more involved in
• Management accounts and analysis
• Project work involving automation of tasks and processes
• Helping the accountant with administrative duties and preparing monthly / yearly accounts.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Upon successful completion you will gain L2 Accounts or finance assistant apprenticeship standard

Training through HWGTA normally comprises of four days per week in company with one day release at our Training Centre at Holmer Road, doing an appropriate course of study. Functional Skills maths and English (if required)

A monthly monitoring visit in company will also take place, during which we make ourselves available for discussion about any special training that may be useful to you, and to identify and resolve problems if they arise.

At the end of your training period, you will be put through to an end point assessment with an external verifier where you will showcase and evidence your knowledge, skills, and behaviours.

In addition, the training programme includes an optional 5-day team building residential course, usually held in April/May each year
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Career progression could be either pursuing a career in accounts, progressing to become a management accountant or assistant financial controller or managing the administration of the organisation. It may also be that the individual wishes to pursue a career in one of our business departments (Vehicles, Plant and Machinery, Wine or Classic Cars)
