What will the apprentice be doing?
Off- the-Job - Completing both practical training in a real working environment and gaining underpinning knowledge through classroom activities in our training centre in Tipton
On-the-Job - Working on an operational site in the UK alongside a qualified craft person applying the skills and knowledge gained in the training centre.
The broad purpose of this role is to manually weld tubes and pipes to high standards of quality and integrity using a minimum of two manual arc welding processes: Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Manual Metal Arc (MMA)
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Your training will consist of:
- Health & Safety
- Interpreting drawings, technical specifications & inspection criteria to establish weld process controls
- Understand material specifications, grades, dimensions and thicknesses
- Inspect weld preparations, align and position pipe and recognise non conformities such as ovality and bore mismatch
- Set up, check, and maintain equipment prior and during the welding process
- Monitor productivity and quality
- Submit quality documents
Successful completion of the 4 year programme delivers a professional qualification recognised by the Welding Institute.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
On the completion of the apprenticeship programme you will become a qualified Welder based on one of our operational sites in the UK applying the skills and knowledge you have gained during your apprenticeship. If you wish to continue your development there will be opportunities to advance into a managerial role.
