A great opportunity has arisen at a large plant grower for an apprentice in horticulture. Window flowers is the largest independent supplier of floral and horticultural services in the UK. Role includes potting on, filling and planting containerised displays and watering and picking over pots, window boxes and hanging baskets.

Working week
Monday - Friday starting at 5.00am when working away from site and 8.00am when working on the nursery site. Weekend work may be required during peak seasons. One day each week will be on the nursery with the balance being away from site. Shifts tbc.

What will the apprentice be doing?
The successful apprentices will be working as part of a team who all take pride in what they do and have a huge wealth of knowledge and expertise in their craft. We are now looking to extend our roles to apprentices who are enthusiastic, want to learn and want to be a plantsman of exceptional standard and training.
Responsibilities would include:
- Potting on
- Filling and planting containerised displays
- Installing and removing hanging baskets, often on lamp columns
- Watering and picking over pots, window boxes and hanging baskets
- All aspects of site maintenance, including mowing and strimming lawn edges
- Lawn care, leaf blowing and hedge trimming
- Weeding
- Pruning and shaping plants, shrubs and bushes under direction
- Soft landscaping, planting and plant care
- Pressure washing of patios, paths
- Installation, decoration and removal of Christmas trees and other decorations
- Planting and maintenance of interior planting schemes
- Respecting health and safety as stipulated, and working in a tidy manner
- Being part of a team that travels to sites
Our clients are mainly in central London so you may be required to visit these sites to change the displays and to carry out maintenance of the arrangements.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- Level 2 Standard Horticulture Operative Apprenticeship Standard
- Weekly day release into Berkshire College of Agriculture
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths & English if you do not hold a 4 / C or above at GCSE Level or equivalent
- An assessor will visit you in the workplace every 6-8 weeks, or more frequently if required
- Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (Ofqual registered) minimum 1-day course
- Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides OR City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides
