What will the apprentice be doing?

Urban Meadows provide a complete landscaping solution from design to construction. We strive to create harmony between urban and natural environments by conceptualising, constructing, cultivating, and caring for London’s gardens.

The duties you will be involved with, and trained on, would focus mainly on landscape construction, and include:

  • Labouring, clearance, and excavating
  • Paving, decking, pergolas, and roof top gardens
  • Planting trees, shrubs, and other plants
  • Crafting bespoke outdoor features
  • Irrigation

You would gain skills and knowledge of horticultural operations including pruning, formal bedding and other aspects of landscape maintenance. A range of hand tools, powered tools and machines are used, and work is always conducted to a high standard. There will be regular interaction with clients and/or residents, and so a polite, well presented representative of the business is a very important quality. No two weeks are the same and a desire to be proud of what you have achieved is vital. We are a hardworking and skilled team and have an excellent working team environment. We are passionate about what we do and want to open this opportunity up to someone who has a similar passion about nature and crafting as we do.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 Standard Horticultural Operative Apprenticeship
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths & English if you do not hold a C / 4 or above at GSCE level
    Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
  • Weekly day release into college at Berkshire College of Agriculture
  • An assessor will visit you in the workplace every 6-8 weeks, or more frequently if required

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Possible full-time role with upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

You will be working outside in all weathers. We leave the sites tidy and things like hedge cuttings are 100% cleared away at the end of a job. You will be working as part of a team and will interact with our clients thus we expect our team to be polite, friendly and professional always.
