What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To carry out development activities taking place within the new R&D centre
  • This will include operation of the robotic development rig and carrying out experiments recording results and writing up reports. Learning about inks, paints and print heads from in house and external sources
  • Ensuring that the development area is always operated in a safe and tidy manner suitable for customer visits

  • Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Company Training Plan & Assessment
  • BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Engineering (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
  • Development Competence Qualification (workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - maths (If required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (If required)
  • End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Paintbox are building the R&D team from the ground and this apprentice will have the opportunity to stay in R&D and grow into a bigger role or to branch out into applications or operations and the technology is rolled out and industrialised

Some practical technical skills and interests: computers/programming/making/repairing. Candidates will need to be self motivated and able to communicate at different levels in the organisation as the project has a high visibility and is generating a lot of interest.

About the employer

Paintbox is a manufacturing company operating out of 3 sites (2 in Banbury). Our primary processes are robotic and manual painting, but also offer assembly, procurement, engineering, testing, quality etc. We are developing new technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and meet environmental challenges going forward and to offer new products to our customers this project is a key part of this strategy.
