What will the apprentice be doing?

The job will initially involve helping and assisting the current team in the making of different products. This will include:

  • Discussing plans and following instructions
  • Cutting and shaping timber for doors, stairs and window frames and other joinery products
  • Making and fitting wooden structures like staircases, doors and window frames
  • As an apprentice you will be taught to be able to safely convert specifications and drawings into finished products using appropriate materials, power tools, handling techniques and quality checks, whilst maintaining a clear, tidy and organised workspace

You will be expected to attend all the college blocks and complete all the work required including compiling a portfolio of evidence to support your qualification and sit a final exam, End Point Assessment.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 qualification in Architectural joinery (Carpentry and Joinery)
  • Functional skills level 1 & 2 in maths and English if required
  • 2-week block placements over a period of 2 years (totalling 20 weeks) at Building Craft College

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Progression to the level 3 qualification.
