Apprentices will receive training in a wide range of mechanical and electrical engineering skills which will include the use of computer based design work, and hands on involvement in the construction, testing and installation of equipment. Candidates must be self-motivated, conscientious and be willing to eventually travel and work abroad.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Mechanical skills including:
- Manual and mechanical handling
- Bench fitting
- Working with hand and power tools
- Machinery assembly – mechanical fitting
- Air, gas, oxygen and water pipework fitting
- Welding – oxy-acetylene, electric arc, TIG and MIG
Electrical skills including:
- Low voltage systems
- Single and three phase power
- Inverters and drives
- Installation and commissioning
Cross discipline skills including:
- Health and Safety, including risk assessment
- Office computer programs
- 2D and 3D CAD
- R&D projects and prototype testing
- Inspection skills – including supplier FATs / Site Inspection and surveys
- Supervision skills
- Planning and scheduling project work and an introduction to Project Management.
- Production Engineering including workflow and MRP
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Duration:
- 13 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment
Delivery model:
- Work-based training with your employer
- Day release during term time (approximately 3 days a week for 1 year)
- Approximately 12 on-site assessment visits per year
- Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English (7 days at college for each, if required)
- Off the job training will count for at least 6 hours a week of an apprentice’s time at work

- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)
- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)
