What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties to include:

  • Assist stone masons with building and repairing stone walls.
  • Mix up cement, lime and other building materials.
  • Move materials to and from the site.
  • Keeping the site tidy.
  • Occasionally assist other tradesmen if needed.



 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be working towards a Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship Standard including Functional Skills if required.

You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and an apprenticeship advisor.

You will be required to attend Cornwall College St Austell on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will have the option of employment or self-employment as a stone mason.

Things to consider

The candidate will be working at different sites in Cornwall and Devon. Sites are currently at Bodmin, Padstow, Lostwithiel, Temple, Herodsfoot and Downderry. As the sites are often in rural locations having reliable transport is essential. Otherwise, we will try to arrange pick up by one of the team members, but this may not always be possible, depending on where the applicant resides and the location of the site to attend. The company organise work parties and there is a uniform.

About the employer

We are a small family business with a team of employees and subcontractors that have been working together for many years. We work on new builds, renovations, conversions and extensions. Our preferred area of work is barn conversions, which we have specialised in. Barn conversions require a lot of bespoke masonry work and most of our longstanding clients appreciate our ideas and suggestions to turn their old buildings into beautiful homes. We have received rewards for some of our builds.
