What will the apprentice be doing?
The role will involve extensive hands-on delivery of new customer solutions and upgrades to existing solutions, of both on-premise and hosted solutions.
Applicants are required to hold a full UK driving licence due to having to travel to managed service providers locations to provide IT support.
As an apprentice, you will develop strong capabilities in Oracle and SQL Server and associated SQL scripting, Compass and CONNECT deployment is primarily onto Microsoft Operating Systems. Compass and CONNECT delivery are primarily located at NEC’s Nottingham (Long Eaton) office and both office-based and home-based applicants are invited to apply. NEC’s office-based staff currently adopt a hybrid working pattern.
Responsibilities:
- Become implementation expert on Compass, CONNECT and other designated NEC products
- Providing consultancy to build, install and configure NEC solutions onto customers infrastructure/hardware and also solutions hosted in our data centres
- Carrying out implementation activities in accordance with the overall project plan
- Involvement in internal project-related activities as directed by the project manager or implementation team manager, including supporting development, client services and QA activities
- Maintaining effective working relationships with customer and NEC colleagues
- Actively involved in decision making regarding implementation planning
- Liaise with the NEC project manager to ensure implementation is to specified scope, and budgets and timescales are met
- Assisting the pre-sales team with the scoping and costing of solutions
- Travel in UK and potentially overseas as project needs demand
The success applicant will develop the following key skills and knowledge:
- Oracle and/or SQL server databases, including administration, SQL querying skills, database sizing, query analysis/tuning, PL/SQL and/or T-SQL, Tomcat
- A broad background of technical experience to include: an understanding of Client Server Infrastructure ○ An understanding of web based applications running in multi-server environments ○ Good knowledge of applications built around Oracle and SQL server database, sound database administration and SQL language skills
- Scripting or programming experience
- Data migration/manipulation skills
- Experience of implementing systems built using the following technologies: ○ Windows Operating Systems and networks ○ Oracle and MS SQL databases ○ Web services (SOAP, JSON, GeoJSON etc.) ○ Browser based apps
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (presentation, written, verbal)
- Ability to maintain accurate records of work for project documentation and of sufficient quality to allow handovers to customers and support
- Be well organised, adaptable, a good problem solver
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 3 Information Communication Technician qualification.
The qualification has core knowledge elements before branching out into one of the following pathways:
- IT Support Technician
- Network Technician
- Digital Communications Technician
Your tutor, pathway planner and employer will decide the best pathway for you to follow. All training is delivered online in virtual classrooms twice per week.
You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or maths if needed.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the potential for a full-time role upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme. NEC very much see this as an investment in the businesses long-term future and skills capabilities.
