What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprentice will join the Electronic Assembly Department and will be involved in building prototypes, testing prototypes & building automated viscometer systems. Typical tasks include:

  • Soldering
  • Wiring
  • Assembly of pneumatic components including solenoid valves and small pumps
  • Assembly of cases
  • Connecting entire systems for pre-delivery inspection
  • Configuration of instruments
  • Validation of instrument performance

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Qualifications include: Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
    Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence), and Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge).
  • College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus two days per week during term time.
  • Functional Skills, if required.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship is posted with the clear intention of leading to full time employment with the company on completion of the programme. A typical progression is to become a full-time field service engineer. This job involves in house repair and service as well as travelling to client sites all over the world to perform maintenance and repair of instruments. Locations include Canada, Finland & South Korea as well as Dartford.
