Quartzelec Limited (Sheffield) are looking for an Electrical Mechanical Fitter Apprentice to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship to join their team. Due to continued growth, we are now seeking a number of apprentices to join the team within the Sheffield Business Unit. You will be producing components using hand fitting techniques as well as other duties.

What will the apprentice be doing?
As a multi-disciplined service provider, we support local industry and infrastructure from our facility in Sheffield with a range of unique rotating machine services; with specialist support available for the oil and gas, marine and renewables, and water markets. The activities undertaken by our Mechanical Fitting department is both diverse and challenging as it covers all aspects of the manufacture, repair & refurbishment of machines which are often highly complex.
Responsibilities:
The role will enable the individual to get involved in all aspects of mechanical engineering processes within the rotating machines industry. Machine shop activities, balancing & mechanical fitting. These are all areas in which you will gain experience and find your place:
- Producing components using hand fitting techniques
- Repair & refurbishment of mechanical assemblies
- Dynamic balancing & laser alignments
- Maintaining electrical equipment
- Maintaining mechanical equipment
- Carrying out planned maintenance activities
- Attend lectures, practical workshops, and visits as per training provider learning plan
- You will also be taught general machining skills to use within your role
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
Plus one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (QCF) – for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (QCF) - for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – for all starts from 1st July 2017
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
