What will the apprentice be doing?

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to start your career as a teaching assistant, gaining experience in supporting our teachers and in supporting our pupils with a range of learning needs to achieve their goals and targets, whilst working towards your level 3 qualification. This is also a great stepping-stone into other careers.

You will be part of our friendly and dedicated team from day one. We value the skills, ideas and energy new apprentices bring to our school.

You will be well supported by teaching and senior staff throughout your apprenticeship. 

The apprentice teaching assistant will work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom, to support access to learning for pupils with SEN and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. 

Learners will build an advanced understanding of how to provide quality teaching and how to influence and support learners.

Some of the areas of development include: 

  • Contributing to the implementation of learning activities 
  • Evaluating the performance of lesson plans and how to improve for the future 
  • Working independently in teaching group and individual activities 
  • Working in partnership with teachers to help support and deliver lesson plans and objectives

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprentice will work towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant standard which includes the Diploma In Supporting Teaching and Learning.

There will be half a day a month, group, remote, tutor led training and a monthly 1-1 training and review meetings alongside workplace training observations. Functional skills in maths and English Level 2 are delivered in person at our centre in Newbury.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
