    Wage: £10,158.72 - £20,202.00 Pay will be reviewed after probation period and then subject to annual review (dependent on overall business performance)

    Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 16:45 with a 30 minute lunch and 2 x 10 minute tea breaks. Friday 08:00 to 12:00 with 1 x 10 minute tea break.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Day One (Medical Production) - Spent as part of medical assembly team:

  • Processing of medical production orders
  • Stock allocation of required components to fulfil production orders
  • Assembly of medical devices through entire lifecycle of production line, gaining a comprehensive understanding of each product and component
  • Testing of medical devices to CE Standards
  • Completion and closure of production orders

Day Two (Conversion Production) - Spent as part of converting assembly team:

  • Processing of conversion production orders
  • Stock allocation of required components to fulfil production orders
  • Assembly of conversion machines through entire lifecycle of machine build, gaining a comprehensive understanding of each product and component
  • Testing of conversion machines post build stage
  • Completion and closure of production orders

Day Three:

  • College attendance at Colchester Institute

Day Four (Printing Production) - Spent as part of printing assembly team:

  • Processing of printing production orders
  • Stock allocation of required components to fulfil production orders
  • Assembly of print circulator machines through entire lifecycle of machine build, gaining a comprehensive understanding of each product and component
  • Testing of print circulator machines post build stage
  • Completion and closure of production orders

Day Five (alternating weeks)

Production Management - Spent as part of the production management team:

  • Processing of all production orders
  • Processing of purchase orders
  • Completion and closure of production orders

Engineering Management - Spent as part of the engineering management team:

  • Maintaining Bills of Materials & change control
  • New Development & Product Design Process
  • Production Support

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Qualifications include: Level 4 HNC in Engineering or Manufacturing
  • College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Things to consider

The apprentice will work closely with fellow MGE employees as part of a small team. This leads to very varied work and involvement in all areas of MGE. Flexibility to support in any area of the business as and when required.

About the employer

Mechanical Engineering production across three unique sectors: Medical Suction Machines, Film and Wrap Conversion Machinery and Print Circulators. All assembly is based within our production facility in Altbarn Close, Colchester. MGE are ISO9001, ISO13485 and Medical Device CE Certified and externally audited by BSI. Benefits include: auto enrolment in company pension scheme, 22.5 days (5 weeks as work 4.5 days per week) holiday plus statutory bank holidays, sickness payment above statutory requirements and finish on Fridays at 12:00pm.
