What will the apprentice be doing?
- You will be introduced to the world of Can making on a global scale and be provided with a multi-disciplined training program that will cover various aspects of Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality control of the most sustainable drinks packaging.
- You will help the department to achieve material cost
reduction by improving processes, updating specifications and new tooling trials to allow thinner and lighter Aluminium drinks cans to be made. - You will support special projects in Can manufacturing through the design, specifications and purchasing of equipment used to make Aluminium drinks cans.
- You will support Can manufacturing facilities to improve quality, efficiency, spoilage reduction and operating costs by reviewing tooling design and tool room equipment.
- Largely computer based work using Microsoft applications, email's, understanding drawings and specifications.
- Some practical and Metrology (measurement) work
- Mainly office based, but some travel to support engineers (Europe)
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Qualifications included:
- Engineering Technician - Apprenticeship Standard.
- Company Training Plan.
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Foundation Competencies (full time at college for Year 1)
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering - Development Competence (workplace)
- Level 2 Functional Skills- Maths (if required)
- Level 2 Functional Skills - English (if required)
- End Point Assessment
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Full development into an engineer role.
