What will the apprentice be doing?

In this role you will gain experience of working on a diverse client base with our team which provides a full range of cost management and contract administration services to construction projects in a variety of sectors, including:

  • Residential (new build and conversions)
  • Elderly Residential Care – (supported and unsupported)
  • HMOs & Supported living accommodation
  • Education – New build Primary schools
  • Residential Decarbonisation Fund works

What does being an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor involve?

  • Joining a well-established, multi disciplines consultancy
  • Learning & mentoring on Pre contract consultancy including scheme procurement strategies and design development
  • Learning & mentoring on Post contract roles such as contract negotiations, contract administration and accounting
  • Assisting experienced Chartered Surveyors on live construction projects. Servicing our current clients
  • Multiple projects at one time
  • Working on both the commercial and operational requirements.
  • Everything from scheme inception through to final account

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Work toward a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying
  • Chartered Surveyor status, with the skills you'll need for registration embedded in your studies
  • Put theory to the test in your job and on field trips
  • Learn from practising surveyors and guest speakers
  • Study surveying and Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques, using professional Revit software
  • Have access to the University's student support services and community including the Library, study support, sports and recreation facilities, and the Students’ Union
  • Build a network of professional peers and fellow students from other surveying and civil engineering disciplines
  • Study alongside your job, with support from a personal University tutor and a workplace mentor
  • You'll typically go to university in Portsmouth 1 day a week to attend lectures, seminars and workshops. On the weeks you don't go to University, you'll still spend 6 hours per week of your working time studying or training
