What will the apprentice be doing?

You will start be learning how to cut material and keeping the workshop tidy and free from hazards. You will help the fabrication team wherever necessary and progressively move onto more complicated tasks all the way up to being a fully trained fabricator.

Some of the skills you will learn:

  • To read engineering drawings
  • Measuring
  • Cutting
  • Drilling
  • Welding (MIG)
  • Welding (TIG)
  • Polishing/Finishing

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprentice will be working towards completing the Level 3 Metal Fabricator apprenticeship standard which will include the following:

Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

Training will be onsite with 1 day a week release at our Pagefield Campus at Wigan and Leigh college.

Functional Skills in maths and English, if required.
