What will the apprentice be doing?

Daily duties:

  • Prompt / assist with medication
  • Support individuals to make healthier choices, whether this be by exercising, shopping healthily or by batch cooking
  • Assist individuals in organising and attending appointments
  • Support individuals out in public
  • Empowering individuals by using a person-centred approach to support work
  • Assist individuals with housekeeping
  • To follow each individual’s service plan to ensure continuity of care

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Standard
  • Functional Skills in maths and English if not previously attained at GCSE or equivalent
  • Off the Job training including monthly college workshop attendance
  • In-house training
  • EPA preparation
  • One to one support and assessment from a work-based learning assessor

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There is the potential to progress within the company up to key support worker / team leader. Continuous training and qualification opportunities.

Things to consider

A driving licence and business car insurance is recommended, as you will need to be able to travel on a regular basis. A DBS check will need to be carried out prior to any offer of employment. There are different pay rates for employees during weekend working and for those who work with complex service users. Overtime is readily available. Sleeping night shifts are paid at national living wage.
