What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff
  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department
  • Learning and understanding the importance of health and safety within the workspace and the college
  • To develop the skills to construct or modify equipment from verbal instructions and drawings to a high degree of precision
  • To learn how to maintain workshop equipment and to keep it in good repair
  • To maintain a logbook (to the required standards as determined by your qualification) over the duration of the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned
  • To maintain and to ensure general good housekeeping of the workplace and work areas
  • To perform any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • If successful in completing your apprenticeship, you will achieve a qualification titled Machining Technician Level 3
  • You will complete your training at Tameside College at our Beaufort Road campus, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 6NX. You will be attending one day a week

Things to consider

You will be operating/working beside heavy machinery. You will have strict PPE requirements. There may be elements of heavy lifting included and manual labour.
