What will the apprentice be doing?
Combining formal classroom and on the job training; develop your knowledge, skills and capabilities of composites manufacturing techniques.
Whilst at college, learn fundamental engineering and manufacturing practice and theory including examination at various stages in the year.
During on-the-job training, work with the research engineering and workshop teams on practical and theoretical day to day work projects.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
How the Apprenticeship works:
- 3 year scheme which combines on the job training and classroom learning.
- 1st year is spent mainly at college except for when you’ll come to the NCC to put what you’ve learnt at college into practice and learn even more.
- 2nd and 3rd years are spent mainly at the NCC with one day a week at college.
- Qualification - NVQ 2&3 and technical certificate.
As part of the apprenticeship, apprentices will be required to achieve a recognised L3 Engineering qualification, as approved by the relevant professional institution, to be deemed eligible to apply for Engineering Technician (Eng.Tech.) status with The Institute of Materials( IOM3) and/or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
- Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Potential for a full-time job offer, however this is not guaranteed.
