What will the apprentice be doing?

This is a varied role that will include all aspects of caring for children, ensuring their wellbeing, happiness and development whilst attending our nursery.

Duties are likely to include:

  • Supervising play
  • Helping at mealtimes
  • Assisting with hygiene
  • Devising activities and progressing children to get them ready for their next steps.

The role will evolve as you progress through your apprenticeship, and you will be fully supported in the workplace to complete your apprenticeship.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Early Years Practitioner qualification level 2 Apprenticeship. 

English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through EPA.

You will attend college every 6 weeks for an activity day. In between, you will have visits in the workplace from your college instructor mentor and be supported by your workplace mentor. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We usually employ our apprentices beyond the end of their apprenticeship. We would also look at supporting apprentices through a level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship. Several of our previous apprentices continue to work at the nursery.

Things to consider

Please consider how you will get to work each day, the Cheddleton setting is located on the main road close to a bus stop with regular service (No. 16). The Leek setting is within walking distance of the town centre and the bus station. You will need to complete a DBS check as part of your application process, you will be supported to complete this. College transport is available for your college activity days. Please note, this employer is happy to receive applications from candidates looking to start immediately or those looking for a placement to start in September 2023.

About the employer

Little stars was established in January 2014 when I (Laura Hanson) worked as a childminder from my home. I then followed my dream to open a nursery, alongside my business partner and co- owner Jo Yorke. in June 2018 we opened our first nursery setting at the local community centre and in May 2019 we opened our new setting based on Cheadle Road, Cheddleton. We have also taken over the running of the nursery at Leek County First School, East Street, Leek.
