What will the apprentice be doing?
Working alongside our team of qualified chef, you will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and storing of all foods and ensuring the quality of the product complies with our standards at all times as well as meeting food safety and health and safety regulations. There will also be occasions where you will have the opportunity to support university events such as open days and graduation.
The main duties of the post will include:
- To cook across our catering units as required
- To be responsible for food production and presentation to a high standard and ensure this standard is maintained throughout the business
- To maintain control of portion size and ensure waste to be minimised
- Replenishing fresh food stock throughout the day, ensuring a smooth service delivery at all times and assisting with the ordering of stock
- Maintain and uphold high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness in the kitchen and to ensure that current legislative requirements are being met
- To bring new ideas to the workplace
- Have the ability to work unsupervised
- Adhere to procedures and methods as laid down by the University
- Attend training session when required
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- The apprentice will be working towards the Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship Standard
- College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time
- Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve level 1 and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to taking the end-point assessment
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
