What will the apprentice be doing?

So, what’ll you be doing? Over the four years you’ll split your time between learning on site at the Drax Power station and at our training providers learning hub. 

The tasks you will be doing will include:

  • Attending and contributing to pre work safety kick off meetings
  • Working as part of a working party
  • Carrying out maintenance and repair work on plant items
  • Following safety documents (Risk Assessments / Method Statements / Company Procedures)
  • Following procedures for reinstating plant areas after work (clean-up / remove temporary barriers / replace guards etc.)
  • Assisting with record keeping (Job card close out / handovers)
  • Identifying suitable jobs for NVQ completion
  • Collecting supporting evidence for NVQ work reports 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Ultimately, you’ll be learning to be responsible and accountable for the plant, and its equipment and systems. But that’s not all, you’ll also be learning to solve problems safely, logically, quickly, and confidently.

At the end of your 4 years you’ll come out with a level 3 apprenticeship in Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) together with a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Engineering (as a minimum).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

After the apprenticeship, you may get the opportunity to progress to a HNC and HND in Engineering, dependent upon your performance and career path.
