What will the apprentice be doing?

Motivated/proactive individual, successful candidate will complete fully funded QS degree whilst gaining practical experience at work. Fantastic opportunity to earn, learn and study a degree without any of the cost. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided. Within the first couple of years of this apprenticeship, the role and duties will include some of the following:

  • Visiting live construction projects to review progress of the works
  • Assisting with preparing cost plans and financial reports
  • Measuring CAD drawings and 3D models to input into cost estimates
  • Attending site meetings and design team meetings
  • Creating project programmes and monitoring progress

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Qualifications include:

  • BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying

Day release to ARU Chelmsford campus over 24 weeks per year

  • 2 days per week in Year 1
  • 1 day per week in Years 2-4

As part of your apprenticeship you will attend Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford from September 2023 for a total duration of 4 years. Each academic year includes 2 semesters of 12 weeks.

In your first year, you will attend university 2 days per week during term time. This reduces to 1 day per week for the remaining 3 years. In your final year you will begin studying for the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and sit your final assessment after graduating university.

These courses will be fully funded by Hainstone including travel and expenses. You will be required to undertake regular private study alongside your full-time role in order to successfully complete these courses.

Your learning will be supported by on-the-job experience gained in the workplace, where you will work alongside Chartered Surveyors delivering live construction and infrastructure projects. This will develop the required skills and knowledge to support your studies.

Our internal training programme will ensure you gain appropriate experience at each stage of your career and enable you to take responsibility for the management of your own projects as soon as you are able.

In addition to this, we will offer you the opportunity to gain work experience with other organisations within the construction industry and study additional external courses where these are required to support your development and progression.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The successful candidate will receive all the necessary training to become a Chartered Surveyor. There will be many opportunities to progress to more senior positions within the business based on experience and competence, including managing teams and more complex projects.

RICS Membership and accreditation on successful completion of the apprenticeship EPA (RICS APC).
