What will the apprentice be doing?
What does the role of Assistant QS involve?
Assist with all aspects of quantity surveying, from pre-contract (prior to the construction project starting on site) through to post-contract services (the construction period) in line with our Client’s requirements.
This includes:
- Quantifying construction elements to assist in the costing and procurement of buildings
- Attending site to track progress and carry out valuations
- Assist with the preparation and agreement of final accounts
- Work with a variety of other construction professionals including Architects, Engineers, Project Managers and Construction Trades
- Support the ST1 Directors and Senior Quantity Surveyors to always represent the Company professionally
What would be my Key Responsibilities at ST1?
- Carry out Assistant Quantity Surveying services throughout different stages of projects
- Assist to maximise value recovery, cost control and cash management on projects
- Assist in the protection of the Company’s contractual position.
- Assist with the production and agreement of accounts on projects worked on
- Assist with the preparation of financial project reports.
- Assist with the preparation of final accounts and claim documents
- Assist with the development and active promotion of the ST1 business
- Administrative tasks including managing drawing revisions and other project documentation
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
BSc (Honours) Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship Standard:
- Day-release to the ARU Chelmsford campus (2 days per week in year 1; 1 day per week for other 3 years - 24 weeks each year)
- We invest heavily in our internal Mentor Training Programme with positive success rates. The ST1 Mentor Training Programme is designed to provide ST1 Quantity Surveying Trainees, Graduates and Assistant Quantity Surveyors with a pathway to achieve the experience and knowledge required to become a fully qualified member of the ST1 Consulting Quantity Surveying team. It is also an opportunity to meet peers and colleagues from across the business who are on this programme and interact with other mentors
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Become a qualified /Chartered Quantity Surveyor with membership of the RICS on successful completion of the EPA (RICS APC)
