What will the apprentice be doing?
We are looking for people who are committed to making a positive difference to the lives of older or disabled people. Previous experience is not necessary, but you will need to be caring, compassionate, flexible and self-motivated. As a health and social care apprentice you will access free training and develop your skills whilst learning on the job.
You will be part of a team ensuring people remain as independent as possible by supporting them with everyday tasks such as washing, dressing, eating meals, maintaining hobbies or interests and accessing social opportunities. Apprentice opportunities are available in our residential, day and extra care centres across the county.
Purpose of this role:
- To support people with all aspects of their day-to-day living, including social and physical activities, personal care, mobility and mealtimes
Key relationships:
- Workplace supervisor/mentor. Derbyshire Adult Community Education Services (DACES) apprenticeship training provider
- Clients/Employees/Carers/Other Professionals
- Report to Line Manager
Key result areas include
- Achieve all elements of the relevant apprenticeship qualification including attaining the required level of functional skills competence in English, mathematics, and ICT (as appropriate)
- Complying with the policies and legal requirements including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding, Equality and Human Rights, Data Protection Act, Risk Management and Financial Regulations
- To deliver care and support with kindness, consideration, dignity, and respect
- Work closely with colleagues and other professionals to care for people with a wide range of complex health and social care needs and their families/carers
- Support independence in the tasks of daily living. This will include assisting individuals to eat, drink, meet personal care needs, carry out domestic tasks and take part in leisure activities. This will include moving and handling
- Help to monitor and support the health of individuals, including those affected by health conditions
- Maintain the confidentiality of the individual and adhere to the departments’ recording systems
- Support individuals to access and use information about services and facilities
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Apprentice opportunities are available in a range of settings including residential, day and extra care centres across the County. On successful completion you will gain a Level 2 Diploma in Care and the Adult Care Worker Level 2 apprenticeship.
Training will be provided by Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service and will be delivered online and within the workplace.
