Due to continued growth, we are now seeking an Apprentice to join the fabrication division within the TS Metals Business Unit in Rugby. TS Metals, a Quartzelec company, are specialist metal fabricators and engineers, which deliver solutions for finished products through to engineering support for complex, turnkey, engineering projects.

What will the apprentice be doing?

The role will include:

  • Welding of structural components as well as other products that are manufactured in our steel workshop.
  • Welding (ARC/MIG), must be proficient in positional welding
    (horizontal, vertical, overhead) and setting machines for different weld processes
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings
  • Experience with general workshop machine tools, such as bandsaws, pillar drills and hydraulic presses
  • Able to fabricate, fold, cut, measure and finish material to an accurate and high standard

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Welding Standard:

  • Level 2 Technical certificate in Fabrication & Welding
  • Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (Workshop) x 2
  • Gateway Assessment
  • End Point Assessment

Delivery model is Part time in years 1 & 2.

Year 1 September 2023 – July 2024.

2 days attendance per week for 36 weeks at WCG to study
towards the Technical Certificate and Foundation Competencies.

Year 2 September 2024– July 2025.

1 day Working towards end point assessment in company.
Additional classes to support end point assessment.
On successful completion of all of the above, the end point assessment can be undertaken.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Progression onto level 3 is desirable upon completion of level 2.
