What will the apprentice be doing?

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate initiative, be flexible, and able to work well under pressure. The apprentice will spend between one to three months in each section learning skills before moving to the next, every month the apprentice will have catch-up meeting with the technical team to monitor or direct their progress. 

Role & responsibilities:

These will include the following listed below and other duties may be assigned depending on the needs of the business:

  • Problem solving
  • Reading drawings
  • Inspect own work
  • Producing machined components to tight tolerances
  • Completing work to designated deadlines
  • Creating NC programmes from engineering drawings
  • Safe working within the section
  • Good housekeeping in the area of operation
  • Maintaining quality of work and adherence to work processes
  • Achieving the production schedule
  • Minimising machine downtime
  • Effective flow of work in and out of section
  • Adhere to requirements of the company’s QA policies

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Machining
  • Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)

You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Machnist - Advance Manufacturing Engineer pathway.  On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world.
