What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Developing your coding and programming skills, producing high quality code following best practices and standards
  • Working on software development tasks and developing software for our R&D projects
  • Develop software for our research and development projects
  • Research and learn about new software technologies and assess their usefulness in improving our future products
  • Be involved in testing software solutions on both real hardware and simulators
  • Team/project meetings, contributing towards design and development decisions
  • Perform code reviews, debugging and refactoring to improve code quality and efficiency.
  • Undertaking changes in the software to either fix customer bugs or add new features
  • Working with, and connecting to, databases
  • Basic testing of code to ensure that the functional and non-functional requirements have been met
  • Basic user interface design
  • Create effective and secure software solutions using different software languages to deliver the full range of functional and non-functional requirements using relevant development methodologies
  • Deliver software solutions using industry standard build processes, and tools for configuration management, version control and software build, release and deployment into enterprise environments.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will attend Teesside University one day per week during term time completing a Level 6 Digital & Technology Solutions Professional Apprenticeship programme. This will lead to a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions (Software Engineer).

When you are not attending university, you will be learning on the job, supported, and directed by our team of experienced developers.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified there is potential for you to continue your career at MHT Technology as a Software Development Engineer.
