    We can offer flexible working patterns but in general under 18’s – up to 40 hours over 5 days. over 18’s – up to 45 hours over 5 days. Days and shifts to be confirmed.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties will include: 

  • Working as part of the team in the kitchen during service to our customers
  • Completing various work assignments online with the support of your tutor (we can provide access to a computer)
  • Food Hygiene and general standards in the kitchen
  • Food preparation
  • Portion size management
  • Introduction to margins and cost management
  • Cooking
  • Stock ordering and management
  • Allergens and food intolerances
  • Food labelling and stock rotation
  • Following recipes and food preparation guidelines
  • Even creating your own dishes...!!

There is so much to experience and learn that it can be quite daunting, but this is not a race we can work at a pace that ensures you achieve your goals.

We have great chefs who between them have over 100 years’ experience working across a wide variety of food cuisines and are willing to share their knowledge and skills to help you start or progress your career in professional catering. 

We can offer flexible working patterns; so, whether you are looking to return to the workplace or looking for a part time opportunity that fits around your life or a full-time job, our flexible and bespoke approach to training means we can work around your current commitments, all at a pace that suits you. (A minimum 30 hours per week is required to be accepted on the apprenticeship scheme).

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Commis Chef Apprenticeship – Level 2.

Maths and English functional skills if required.

We have partnered with ‘Straight A Training’ and between us both we will deliver you a fantastic learning program that will catapult you into a career that has no limits.... you will be the only element that stops you from succeeding.

You will work in our established kitchens learning alongside our talented team, many of whom join us as trainees and have progressed into more senior roles. 

Training will be based at The Russell Arms but with an opportunity to move the position to one of other venues by agreement.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Fantastic opportunities to progress through our kitchen teams to head chef. (Two of our current head chefs started as trainees/apprentices).

There would also be opportunities to gain experience and career progression by working in our Front of House teams if that was of interest.
