What will the apprentice be doing?

We support you to become a qualified engineer with a mix of practical and classroom based learning. At the end of the 4 years, you will graduate with an OAL L3 in Food and Drink Engineering Maintenance (Multiskilled), Level 3 Health and Safety Award, and your 18th Edition Regulations Certificate.

So what do our engineers actually do?

Our Engineers are problem solvers. They are responsible for maintaining, fixing and installing machinery that allows us to create tasty, healthy, high quality products.

If a machine breaks down, we can’t get products to our customers. As an Arla Engineer, you will save the day and make sure that the nation get Cravendale milk in their tea each morning, Skyr yoghurt in their breakfast bowl, and Anchor butter on their toast.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will study a Level 3 Food and Drink Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship Standard at Kirklees College in Huddersfield.

The college element of this Apprenticeship is “block release”, meaning you will spend up to 20 weeks at a time at college in each year of the apprenticeship. As such, there is the expectation to work and study away from home. When required, accommodation and travel will be organised, but we need you to have the maturity to manage yourself and your studies both if away from home and at work.

The final year will involve completion of a portfolio and preparation for End Point Assessment (EPA). This measures the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the standard and is carried out by ESFA approved organisations independent from the college.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once our apprentices have completed their Apprenticeship standard, subject to vacancies at the time, there will be an opportunity to apply for further employment.

Our first shortlist will be based on your CV, and your motivation for applying for the role. If shortlisted, you will be invited to take part in an online interview and assessment centre. These interviews will take place on the 22nd & 23rd May 2023. If successful at this stage, you will then be invited to your preferred locations for a final interview and discussion with members of our engineering team.
