What will the apprentice be doing?
The Half Moon Inn's Apprentice Chef will work up to 30 hours per week preparing food and carrying out basic cooking tasks in every section of a kitchen under the supervision of a Senior Chef.
They will be expected to enrol and attend college to achieve Institute for Apprentices and Technical Education Commis Chef Standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing kitchen documentation
- Working alongside the Head Chef
- Organising the storage and management of food
- Complying with food hygiene and safety recommendations
- Keeping work areas clean and tidy
- Work quickly and efficiently to keep up with customer needs
- Gaining knowledge of food being prepare
- Ensuring food quality to required standards checking for taste, presentation and style
- Assist in completion of relevant paperwork for compliance and stock control
- Support preparation and storage methods avoid wastage to reduce operational costs
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene
- Preparing food and ingredients to support senior co-workers

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
This is a perfect route for someone who wishes to gain a nationally recognised professional chef qualification whilst working full time. On successful completion of the commis chef programme you will be supported to move into a chef de partie role or senior production chef roles. Development will be based upon attitude, quality and capability.
