What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprenticeship combines working, earning a full-time salary, with fully funded part-time education.  This will give you the opportunity to gain a Level 4 apprenticeship standard in Buying and Merchandising qualification with the advantage of gaining relevant work-life skills and the excitement of helping to develop lower prices, better selection, and more convenient services for our customers from delivering fresh produce to their doorstep to creating and distributing movies, music, and more whilst taking your first steps towards a rewarding career.

This 24-month programme teaches you a vast range of useful experiences and skills, whilst working towards the Buying and Merchandising Apprenticeship qualification.  You will collate, analyse and distribute sales and performance reports, identifying trends, trading patterns and highlighting anomalies.   You will communicate and escalate findings accordingly and will also work collaboratively as a team to contribute to the delivery of the department/company sales and profit targets. 

Whilst working on the Buying and Merchandising level 4 Apprenticeship, your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining buying system data input and integrity
  • Vendor co-ordination on new product setup, samples and availability
  • Root causing and resolving defects
  • Owning reporting and customer insight to identify trends
  • Auditing implementation and building autopsies

You will also have the opportunity to develop commercial skills by supporting the business management and product development teams with product creation, planning, reporting and managing our ever-evolving business. This position offers an exciting opportunity to learn about our diverse brands and products as part of a global team.

Working alongside the team, you will support with day-to-day tasks learning how Amazon works and delivers for its customers and as your knowledge and skills develop over the duration of the scheme you will have opportunities to be part of, and lead projects, making a real difference for customers.

In addition to extensive development of your technical skills, you will also grow your abilities in crucial complementary areas like organisation, prioritisation, data and problem-solving techniques, teamwork, communication, presentation skills and document writing.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As well as learning key skills, you will be working towards the Level 4 Apprenticeship standard in Buying and Merchandising.

Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

Training will be delivered in a mix of remote and face-to-face sessions. Each week Apprentices will be allocated time away from their day to day roles to work on their Apprenticeship studies. You will spend approximately 80% of your working week learning from skilled members of the team whilst supporting learning on the job.

The apprenticeship will run for 24 months, at the end of which you will be eligible to apply for higher roles in the Vendor Management teams within Amazon or anywhere in the industry.  This is the ideal opportunity to get valuable work-experience at Amazon, as well as gaining a relevant qualification funded by Amazon.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will work alongside the team, supporting with day to day tasks learning how Amazon works and delivers for its customers.  As your knowledge and skills increase over the duration of the scheme you will have opportunities to be part of and lead projects, making a difference for customers.  The on the job experience will help you build a portfolio of evidence towards your apprenticeship.  You will be given dedicated time to focus on your studies to help you stay on track and work towards successfully completing your qualification(s).  Once you have successfully completed your Buying and Merchandising Apprenticeship you will be able to apply for relevant roles across the business.
