What will the apprentice be doing?
You will be contributing to delivering a project which will help the UK take a major step towards reducing carbon emissions and supporting the ambition to Net Zero.
As an MEH Alliance QS Apprentice you will have the opportunity to work closely and pro-actively within teams across multiple contractors across HPC. As a qualified and experienced QS, you will have a specialist skillset that will be invaluable to HPC and create opportunities for you to work on future nuclear projects in the UK.
As an MEH Alliance apprentice you will:
- Study at one of the top performing colleges in the country
- Work across HPC to build a clear understanding of the Nuclear New Build sector
- Develop great working relationships with some of the industry’s most experienced QS’s
- Have a strong support network giving you the chance to achieve your potential
You will learn to:
- Work collaboratively with different functions to build a clear understanding of their HPC scope
- Develop competency in monitoring and controlling costs and contracts on a variety of projects
- Work closely with other QS’s and Engineers in the MEH Alliance
- Learn to identify risks within contracts and possible solutions
- Preparation of commercial cost reports and progress measurement
- Review of Contractor deliveries including where appropriate attending valuation and progress review meetings
- Monitor subcontractors and suppliers to ensure they have met our requirements
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard - Construction Quantity Surveying Technician:
- Level 4 Construction Quality Surveying Technician - Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
- Edexcel Level 4 HNC in Construction (Surveying)
- Edexcel Level 2 Functional Skills English - (exemptions apply)
- Edexcel Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics - (exemption apply)
The successful candidate will also need to complete a diagnostic assessment, which will help us plan the appropriate support required to meet your individual needs.
One day per week release for training at Taunton campus.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Successful completion of this apprenticeship may result in progression to the L6 Construction Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship.
