What will the apprentice be doing?

Apprentices will:

  • Assemble and test valves and sub-assemblies
  • Weld
  • Attend the technical college and complete assignments in a timely manner and to an appropriate standard
  • Complete office based activities supporting design, procurement, production engineering and inventory control
  • Work in a safe, tidy manner in line with Company policy
  • Work in accordance with health and safety requirements
  • Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA’s Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.

They will also begin a technical certificate (depending on their prior attainments) where they will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years. After their initial training at SETA, they will be on site working on developing their skills for their End Point Assessment.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion of their Apprenticeship, candidates can expect to be ready to move into a role as Non-Standard Assembly Operative and continue their career progression towards Production Engineer.
