What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Our Higher Level engineering apprenticeships cover 3 distinct trades, one of which you will follow, the options include: Mechanical, Electrical and Naval Architecture.

  • Irrespective of the trade route you are assigned to, as part of your role you will gather information and data from a range of sources and analyse the information/data.

  • You will make decisions, solve problems and produce and/or update technical documentation, reports or specifications covering areas such as quality, reliability, production schedules/targets, costing or other technical documentation that informs others, either internally or externally what needs to be done such as how a product must be designed, manufactured, tested, modified, maintained, stored, transported, commissioned or decommissioned.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will gain a HNC in Engineering before the culmination of the apprenticeship End Point Assessment, which after passing, will gain you the nationally recognised apprenticeship certificate as a Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

You will be equipped to apply for internal vacancies within the team.

Things to consider

Apprentices will spend their full first year at College, followed by 1 day per week in years 2 and 3 with the other 4 days per week onsite. The 4th year will be spent exclusively onsite. All apprentices will work at a variety of locations across the site and will move around to gain an insight into all of the operations we undertake.
