What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Becoming a qualified slinger, you will develop the learn fundamental knowledge skills and behaviours required to become a fully functioning member of the lifting team on site.
  • During the course, you will acquire all the required skills to carry out a variety of lifting operations within the Devonport site, from working with a variety of cranes to using portable equipment and rigging/fleeting within nuclear areas.
  • You will be versed with all the current legislations and keep up to date with any legislative changes.

You will gain a variety of national qualifications, this includes:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Construction Lifting, Positioning and Installing Structures, Plant and Equipment (RQF)
  • Level 3 Engineering Construction Rigger Apprenticeship standard (including NVQ Level 3)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship will enable you to become a qualified slinger. You will become a fully functioning member of the lifting team on site.

Things to consider

You will be required to spend 3/4 weeks away at our provider’s sites in Birmingham. Apprentices will work at a variety of locations across the Devonport site and will move around to gain an insight into all the operations on site. There is no requirement to attend college, all training will be done onsite except for the above.
