What will the apprentice be doing?

Daily duties include:

  • Teaching swimming
  • Supervision of bathers
  • Gym inductions
  • Cleaning operations

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprentice will be working towards a Level 2 Leisure Team Member qualification and the the training will be provided one site, the apprentice will be required to have at least a level 4 and above in maths and English.

Qualifications will include

  • A IQL Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding
  • One of the following: A Swim England Level 2 in Teaching Swimming or A STA level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming
  • A Level 2 Certificate in Fitness or Gym Instruction awarded by; Focus Awards, Active IQ, Innovate Awarding, NCFE, VCTC or YMCA Awards
  • A Level 3 certificate in First Aid (to be taken either as a stand-alone qualification or as a separate part of the IQL Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There is a potential of being offered a full-time permanent position on completion of the apprenticeship.
