What will the apprentice be doing?

Your working day will vary dending on projects, however, in general you can expect to: 

  • Specialise predominately with soft landscaping including planting, turfing, soil prep, staking, guying trees, wildfower seeding / turfing, mulching.
  • Assist with some groundworks/ hard landscaping such as earthworks, grading, edgings pathways, hard standings, specialist finishes.
  • Upkeep and maintain soft landscaping features, including bed maintenance, grass and hedge cutting, leaf / litter clearance, weed control, veg management etc.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Qualifications Awarded

  • Apprenticeship Certificate
  • Level 3 award in emergency first aid at work
  • Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance OR Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides
  • Level 1 in maths and English (if applicable)

 

What will the apprentice learn? 

  • Principles of plant handling, growth and development
  • Plant nutrition requirements
  • Ways to reduce / manage waste
  • How to use equipment correctly
  • Cultivating soils for differing purposes
  • Controlling invasive weeds, plant pests and diseases
  • Identifying plants
  • Learn a wide range of landscape constriction and maintenance techniques.
