What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Provides an opportunity to someone who is interested in learning about various elements of performing engineering operations to a recognised qualification.
  • Combining study and work, under the instruction and supervision of skilled technical staff, your days will offer lots of unique challenges, with an array of interesting work, and training.
  • You will work towards acquiring the knowledge and skills on how to competently perform duties using hand tools, marking out, drilling, milling, fitting and assembly, through to CNC laser & bending technology, and MIG/TIG welding and fabricating.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Metal Fabricator Level 3 standard. On completion the apprentice will receive Metal Fabricator qualification. Functional Skills in Maths and English may also be required depending on current level.   

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We like to offer all apprentices, full time employment after successful completion of their apprenticeship. Providing they have worked hard and are wanting to grow and progress in Ackerman Engineering.

You MUST be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship. You will be required to have a telephone interview with Yeovil College prior to your application being passed on.
