Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance apprentices service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. They will be/are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.

What will the apprentice be doing?
- Finding and identifying mechanical faults, for example in the brakes, gears or fuel pumps
- Checking for problems in newer vehicles with testing equipment connected to the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU)
- Advising owners on the repairs needed and how critical they are
- Carrying out repairs, which could include replacing damaged parts
- Carrying out routine servicing and checks
