We are looking for one Electrical Apprentice, to work at one of our factories in the UK. The apprenticeship will last for about 4 years and combine both residential studies at MAKE UK in Birmingham and on-the job-learning with an experienced mentor at the factory. As an Electrical Apprentice, you will be supporting the Engineers with the maintenance of the plant and equipment within the factory and undertaking preventative maintenance tasks. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to earn a salary and gain a level 3 qualification.

What will the apprentice be doing?
As well as training and qualifications, you will also be paid a competitive rate of pay and be eligible for benefits, including a defined contribution pension scheme. We will also support your continuing professional development after you have qualified.
As an Electrical Apprentice, you will be supporting the Engineers with the maintenance of the plant and equipment within the factory and undertaking preventative maintenance tasks.
• It is essential that you have a practical hands-on approach to completing these tasks, and you will need good organisational skills to enable you to manage the range of tasks competing for attention.
• At college you will be studying subjects to give you the appropriate knowledge and skills to carry out these tasks when back in company, such as Electronic Fault Finding, Features and Applications of Electrical Machines, and Principles and Operations of Three Phase Systems to name but a few.
• You will input information into a planned maintenance system, and you will support the collection and analysis of production data, so computer skills will be necessary.
• You will be responsible for familiarising yourself with Ibstock Policies and Procedures in your particular area, and to work within the Health and Safety parameters within the factory.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will be staying in Birmingham all week during your first year, in a hotel, with the other apprentices.
Once your apprenticeship has finished you will be expected to work shifts including nights
Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us and Make UK, which are fully paid for, including:
• Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) - Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time
• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – BTEC Diploma or City & Guilds
During the first year you will attend Make UK Training School full time studying the BTEC Level 3 together with hands-on practical activities to complete your Level 2 Diploma. This first year will require you to stay in Birmingham during term time. (All travel and hotel costs are covered by Ibstock plc).
Once you have passed the Gateway Assessment you progress into your second year which is based at the factory with block release to Make UK to continue with your BTEC Level 3 Diploma.
During your third and fourth year you will be based in the factory putting your newly gained skills and knowledge into practice and completing your Level 3 Diploma.
The final year also includes your End-Point Assessment which once successfully completed leads to your new role within Ibstock plc as a qualified Electrical Engineer.
In addition you will also gain other industry relevant qualifications such as:
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
• LEEA Accredited Lifting and Slinging
• Siemens S7 Plc course
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Successful completion of the apprenticeship leads to your new role as a qualified engineer within Ibstock plc.
- There is potential for the right candidates to move into a management or a technical role, fully supported by a Continuous Professional Development programme within Ibstock
