What will the apprentice be doing?
As a process operator apprentice, you would be part of a team which is responsible for ensuring that our products are manufactured in a safe environment and to a high standard, enabling the company to meet the requirements of our customers.
At Eggborough we produce the following groups of products:
- Float glass
- Coating glass to increase energy efficiency
- Laminating glass for security and noise reduction purposes
The key areas of the process operator apprenticeship would include:
- Health & Safety Regulation
- Continuous Improvement tools including basic problem solving
- Dealing with the issues relating to a production line
- Learning to assist with plant start-ups and shutdowns
- Learning how to monitor and control the production line
- Learning how to communicate clearly with other team members, and managers
- Learning how to react to non-standard or emergency situations in an effective way
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Students will be working on a 3-year apprenticeship, year 1 will be spent at the HETA training centre where they will complete the following training:
- Process workshop training including some basic engineering skills as well bench fitting, electrical wire and testing and fluid power
- A Level 3 diploma in process technologies
- 1 day a week, completing a Level 3 technical qualification including maths and health & safety
- You will be working with our instructors to develop the knowledge skills and behaviours required of your apprenticeship standard
Years 2 and 3 will be spent on site at Saint Gobain where they will work alongside the process team and gain hands on experience and training to further their knowledge as well as working towards their Maintenance and operations engineering technician qualification.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship candidates can be offered a full-time contract of Employment in their chosen specialism.
Saint Gobain Glass believe in developing people and there will therefore be options to progress within the company with opportunities for Higher Education or through multi-skilling.
