What will the apprentice be doing?

You’ll be supported every step of the way, by your line manager and mentor.

Working alongside our water network team, you will be:

  • Ensuring we identify and reduce water leakage across our distribution network
  • In your daily work, you’ll interact with distribution service technicians and our repair and maintenance technicians
  • You will also work with our call centres, network optimisation and contractors
  • You’ll regularly engage with customers and members of the public which will help you to build your stakeholder relationship management skills

What you will learn:

  • You will learn how to identify potential leakage, using data, tools and techniques
  • Give advice to customers on water fittings and repair and maintain meters and loggers
  • You will also learn how to identify water network issues, apply fault-finding and problem-solving techniques, and identify root causes in some of our equipment to resolve faults
  • We will teach you how to calibrate equipment such as temporary loggers and pressure gauges to the appropriate standard
  • You will learn how to operate our water network safely and protect our environment

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Within our water network team you will complete the Level 3 Water Industry Network Technician Apprenticeship standard, allowing you to develop the skills and experience required to become an expert within our water network team.

You’ll combine on-the-job learning with formal, nationally recognised development training. A Personal Development Plan will help drive your career progression, set, agreed and regularly reviewed with your line manager.
