Increasingly automated. Ever more sophisticated. This is the future our vision holds for our vehicles. As a Digital & Technology Solutions Degree Apprentice, you will implement technology solutions, aligned to your pathway, to develop new products and services and increase productivity using digital technologies. Jaguar Land Rover is a world leader in engineering – we make incredible luxury vehicles. Our aspirations are no different for Digital & Technology. Our people, our teams and our culture are at the heart of everything we do. We are natives of the Agile and “DevOps” world and are here to solve complex technical challenges.
Data Analytics pathway
Innovation starts life in numbers. Data dictates where we go next. You’ll tell us what it’s saying. But first, we need to make you fluent in this unique language. By the end of the programme, you’ll understand data structures, software development procedures and analytical tools we use.
This pathway will expose you to key areas including Data Science & Machine Learning and Business Analytics & Visualisation, and you could find yourself working within Digital or Engineering Operations (EO). You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.
Digital – Gaydon
This function focuses on building our new connected data and developer platforms to provide the technology and services for our connected vehicles and customers. Whether it’s a platform to remotely update cars via Software Over the Air (SOTA), or systems to make the design and engineering of our vehicles more efficient, we work with all parts of the business on interesting and complex challenges. This makes data essential to everything we do.
Digital & Technology Solutions Apprentices in this team will work with senior leaders to learn data structures, software development procedures and the use of analytical tools. You will also support the team in solving complex analytics problems, deploying solutions into the business and creating reusable data assets.
Along the way, you will learn how to work in an Agile environment (Scrum methodology) and use industry-standard tools such as Jira. You will also learn about modern development methodologies and processes and help the team with user and business engagement and understanding and documenting requirements.
Engineering Operations (EO) – Gaydon
EO is fundamentally involved at every stage of the engineering process, driving an exciting transformation in the way we engineer and deliver our products with class-leading technology and quality.
As an apprentice in this area, you will work across teams to enhance data flows through programming and automation. In doing so, you will develop an understanding of data quality, including how to import, cleanse, transform and validate data to inform decision-making. In the process, you will learn how to adapt and develop data analysis tools, building skills in data visualisation using charts, graphs, tables and more sophisticated instruments. You will also reduce the margin of data errors produced by vehicles and fixed facilities and increase the speed of data production.
You could find yourself analysing and verifying multiple data streams, helping us bring data analytics in-house to reduce costs and improve efficiency, creating KPIs for the business or becoming an expert in Tableau, Wrike, Python or SharePoint
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As part of your apprenticeship, you will study for a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions with the University of Warwick (WMG).
Over the first three years of your apprenticeship, you will study a range of modules designed to help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive as a technology professional. You’ll contribute to the business in your assigned role, as well as undertake additional study in your own time, to achieve your academic award. A network of apprentice tutors and line managers will regularly review your progress and offer advice along the way, to support you in performing at your best.
Modules are taught in week-long blocks throughout the academic year by WMG, part of the University of Warwick. These will be a mix of lectures, practical laboratory assignments, seminars and tutorials delivered in person and online and you will also enjoy access to a virtual learning environment for further support.
In the final year, you will undertake a work-based project which also forms part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). On successful completion of your EPA, you will achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship – and will be ready for an amazing career with Jaguar Land Rover.
