What will the apprentice be doing?
Painters and Decorators operate in commercial properties and undertake the decoration and protection of buildings.
Properties include:
- Houses
- Schools
- Offices
- Hospitals factories
- Construction sites
Working internally, or externally you will work individually and/or as part of a team applying water-borne and/or solvent-borne paint coatings and wall coverings. You will gain good knowledge of paint coatings and wall coverings and understand and comply with statutory, safety and environmental requirements. You are responsible for your own work achieving a high quality finish at the appropriate pace. You need to be a good problem solver and have good communication skills to be able to interact effectively with colleagues, clients and associated trades.
Duties include:
- Prepare the work area safely providing dust sheets and protection to furniture and adjacent surfaces
- Select, use, maintain and store, paint, tools, wallcoverings, spray equipment, steps, ladders and towers safely
- Identify and rectify common surface coating and wall covering problems
- Prepare and strip surfaces using abrasives, chemical etchants, power sanders, heat and liquid methods
- Use different application methods brush, roller, spray, power-assisted rollers and special effect tools
